Training Starts Here
Once you are accepted into the Metropolice Force as a Cadet, you will begin your training at The Nexus. Here you will begin a week long Cadet Training Program (CTP) that will put your skills, and physical power to its limits. Not only will there be physical training, but there will be intellectual training as well. The Metropolice Force requires men and women with great aptitude, and a willingness to learn. You must require basic mathematics skills and must grow upon those skills. During your training, an instructor will be teaching you the basics of engineering, both chemical, and mechanical. In order to learn them, you need basic knowledge of math. You will also be taking biomedical classes. A class that could possibly save your partners life. Since the Metropolice force acknowledges that team work is a number one priority, the majority of your training will consist of team building exercises. This way, you will understand the meaningfulness of team work, and cooperation. Your life as a civilian is over. Your first name from now on will be Cadet. Here in the Metropolice force, we turn civilians into mankind’s enforcers. The next step to evolution requires humans as a collective group to make the right choices, civil choices, and to make sure nothing interferes with these choices.
Problem based learning (PBL) will be the first method of teaching that you will be experiencing as a cadet. PBL, the Metropolice has found, to be the most successful way of teaching a cadet on how to adapt to situations, and how to clearly strategize plans and rationally seek ways on how to problem solve.
Problem based learning is a method of teaching that presents cadets with a real life, ill-structured problem that has no easy solution. The Cadet Training Program encourages the cadet to ask questions, hypothesize, research, and then solve the problem. Some of the benefits of problem-based learning include an opportunity for problem solving according to individual learning styles and the development of critical thinking skills. Most important, the cadet learns to enlist the community as group members in his or her learning process.
Your New Home: The Nexus
The Nexus is your new home. You’ll be spending most of your time as an officer here. There are always new opportunities to learn, and opportunities to become a leader, and The Nexus is the perfect place to take advantage of said opportunities. The Nexus is a place to strive, a place to improve upon yourself as a human being. It’s your job to become humanities next step, but you’ll need the protection of The Nexus to keep you safe and help you reach humanities goal. Not only will you enjoy the security of The Nexus, but you will learn to admire the great engineering feats that it has taken to build The Nexus. We look forward to units such as yourself to improve on the nexus, and make it even more impenetrable than it already is. Yekaterinburg, Russia, is where City 18’s current Nexus is located. A beautiful city that once belonged to the Russian Federation. The buildings a mix of soviet-era, and modern twenty first century buildings. Overwatch has chosen a secure building as the Metropolice’s Nexus. Russian architecture and engineering at its finest, built to sustain, and keep on standing.
The Basics
Your first day at the Nexus will be your chance to prove your worth, physically. You will be partaking in activities ranging from the firing course, hand to hand combat training, wall climbing, and a favorite, lap running. The Metropolice Force can guarantee that you will be sore, and exhausted by the end of the day. However, you need to remember to push yourself. In order to gain support of your divisional, you need to go the extra kilometer. But what exactly does support of your divisionals grant you? Well, it grants you access to special programs, like the Sectorial’s very own Overture program. The Overture program is for the few, or preferably many, who overachieve during their training.
Your second day of training, will involve the Problem Based Learning method. This Metropolice Force hand book will give you tips on the best way to succeed in your Problem Based Learning tests. Generally, your first test will involve a patrol around the plaza. Not only is it a safe learning environment, but you get to meet the community. But, on the rare occasion that there’s a uncivil community member, what should YOU and your colleagues do? The Metropolice makes it their job to ensure the civility of the community, and you know what they say, one bad apple spoils the bunch. Surely, we cannot let that happen. Depending on the severity of the crime, there are ways to deal with uncivil community members, or as some would say, anti-citizens. For example; John, a man who had previously had a heroin addiction has come to the city. He attempts to fit in, however, his irrational thinking, and withdrawal symptoms prevent him from creating friends within the community. He decides to take his frustration out on you, a respected unit, along with your colleague, another well-respected unit. He swears at you. A grievous insult. This man is an adult, most likely in his thirties. Surely, positive reinforcement will not help this savage human being. However, such an offense is not worth the resources of putting him inside a cell within The Nexus. So, you take John into the corner, and give him negative reinforcement. Pain has always been a good learning tool. Generally, the pain associated with one’s actions, will prevent them from doing it again. In the case that one might enjoy the pain, it’s recommended that you seek the advice of a divisional. You want to hit your target, generally with your baton. However, if need not be, then you may use whatever you want. As long as it is not lethal. John, by the end of this beating will be irritated, but you may let him go. Once he is done scowling to himself, he will remember the negative reinforcement you gave him, and he will cease being uncivilized. However, in the case that he retaliates, you are allowed draw your side arm, and eliminate the citizen. Such an action, you can only pay for with your own life.
Example 2; If on your patrol, you might get the chance to run into contraband. What is contraband? Contraband are items that are not registered by the Union. Contraband can range from articles of clothing, to weapons. However, a citizen is able to register some contraband. All they need to do, is ask a unit, and the unit may forward the request to a divisional or officer. If the request is denied, it’s recommended that you take the requested item, and destroy it. The citizen doesn’t need punishment, however, it is up to the unit’s discretion. If you do by chance find a weapon, or something branded with an anti-union symbol, it’s suggested that you call for backup, and arrest the civilian immediately, investigate, and interrogate.
Example 3; This situation would be extremely rare, however, in the case that it does happen, you must prepare for the worst. If there is ever an assault on the Nexus, or even plaza, your ultimate concern should be the well-being of the Sectorial, your divisionals, officers, and comrades. Civilians should always be your secondary priority. If you are an oh-five, or an oh-four, you’re expected to follow your officer, and divisional. Your commanding officer will give your advice and orders on how to deal with the situation on hand. However, you should note that such a thing has never happened in the history of the Union.
After your problem based learning training is over, an officer, or divisional will put you in a division based on your strengths and weaknesses, or, if you’ve done exceptionally well, or you’ve done the same across all boards, you will have a choice on which division you want to go into. Your third day of training will be up to your new divisionals discretion.
Once You Have Graduated the Cadet Training Program
Once you’ve graduated the cadet training program, your new divisional will be giving you orders. You’re an independent officer now! You’ll only be watched until you get to your brand new apartment. Yes, your loyalty to the Union grants you a new apartment, as well as better supplementary aid. The food is fresh, and the water is carbonated! Loyalty has a price. We know you would work for the Union for nothing, that’s why these rewards are a privilege, not a right.
Your Uniform and Gear
When you join the Metropolice Force as a cadet, you will be given your uniform. Made from a quality fabric, and fitted just for you. This is one of the many privileges you will get when joining the Metropolice Force. You will have two uniforms; A winter uniform and a summer uniform. Your winter uniform will be made from a fine Italian wool, it has a dark blue collar, scalloped pocket flaps, pleated pockets and internal belt suspenders. The exterior of the uniform is navy black, and the inside is a lake green. Your pants will match your tunic, material wise. They are colored a lighter blue, with darker blue strips. This quality is sure to make any kind of insurgency turn the other way, since we have quality uniforms, for quality officer.
Once you've graduated from the CTP, then you gain a much more sleek uniform, designed for urban combat, but still made to not look threatening, as to not discourage citizens from talking with a Metropolice officer. An officer's uniform is the same uniform throughout summer and winter. A light synthetic fabric tunic, colored a deep black. The pauldrons of the uniform are a white, and are weaved with kevlar. This is to hinder any damage to the ascending aorta. You'll also be given a light kevlar vest. You most likely wont be needing it, but in the case of an attack on the nexus, or the plaza, it will definitely come in handy. Your pants will be lake green, and made from a light nylon fabric, while your boots are made from tough, high quality leather. Last but not least, you'll be given a Russian PMG rubber gasmask. Why though? Well, this is because of anonymity. Many citizens aren't very happy under the strict laws of the Union. They need some time, and correction to admire the reasons behind these laws, but until then, it's important that you keep your identity safe. The Union certainly doesn't want their officers hurt while off duty.
